The word Halloween refers to the
traditional feast to celebrate the legacy of Celtic origin.
On 31st of October Celts celebrated the festival of Samhain (the God of the dead). Some sources
indicate that the Gaelic word "Samhain" literally means "end of
summer".
It was also believed that the
souls of the dead visited the farmers' houses to try to find a body to habit. So, farmers left a lamp lit in their houses, and they dressed as witches or demons so
that souls wouldn't inhabit their bodies.
Nowadays, one of the most common tradition is
the Trick or treat. The children dress up for the occasion and they go houses to houses asking for small gifts such as
candies. If there aren't any gifts, children could perform some naughty against the owners of the houses.
According to the tradition, it is
necessary to empty a pumpkin and put a candle inside to light the way at Halloween nights.
